Mission

WIT was formed in 1987, inspired by the Chornobyl nuclear tragedy in Ukraine, in recognition of the pressing need to provide accurate information about our deteriorating environment and human health. WIT exercises its mandate through the programs below.

Programs

World Ecology Report

Published since 1989, the World Ecology Report is a quarterly digest of critical issues in health and the environment, focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and distributed throughout the world.

Health and Environment Conferences

From 1992 to 2019 WIT held annual conferences on “Health and Environment: Global Partners for Global Solutions” at United Nations Headquarters, on the growing scientific evidence linking environmental degradation and human health. The conferences have been co-sponsored by UN member states and agencies, and resumed in November 2025.

Internships

Since 1994 WIT has offered internships at UN Headquarters in New York City. Interns follow the UN agenda daily for eight weeks in the summer, or weekly during the academic year, to help future leaders understand what the world needs to become sustainable.

Scholarship Program

WIT assists KKF in finding gifted university students in need of financial assistance, and the KKovshevych Foundation grants scholarships for their studies.

worldinfo.org

WIT's website carries scientific presentations from the annual conferences, the archived World Ecology Reports, the Speakers Series and Virtual Voices, along with WIT's history and programs.
